Most of the schemes of Minor Irrigation Department come under the district sector.
The outlay of funds for these schemes is approved by the District Committee under
the District Plans of the district, which includes the public representatives of the district.
The main scheme of the Minor Irrigation Department is of free drilling in
which shallow tube wells are established. Under this, the farmer is selected
in the open meeting of the Gram Panchayat. Registration of deep tube wells
and medium depth tube wells is done at the district level. In which work
is done on the basis of priority register.
The works taken up under the minor irrigation program are either the
farmer's own, for example, free borings (shallow tube wells), medium
deep tube wells, deep tube wells, etc. or community works, for example,
check dams, dams, ponds, etc. The maintenance of farmers' works is
done by the farmers themselves and the maintenance of community
works is done by the Gram Panchayat. In case of tube wells, boring
work is completed by the department and the remaining work,
for example, installation of pump set, construction of pump
house/sump house, electrification etc. is done by the farmer himself.
In this way, public participation is maintained at every level in the
construction of minor irrigation works.
